Chicano Men: A Cartography of Homosexual Identity and Behavior.

I found this reading really interesting as it gave insight into the social expectations of a society other than post-modern America. The intersectionality between forces such as race, gender, culture, class, social status, and societal expectations is extremely prevalent. One of the quotes from this reading that stood out to me the most was:

"Although stigma accompanies homosexual practices in Latin culture, it does not equally adhere to both partners."

I feel as though this statement is a commentary not only about Latin American expectations about gender, but also about the double standards present in various areas of all cultures. The idea that there are different stigmas within Latin American society associated with masculine homosexual men and feminine homosexual men...honestly it seems odd to me that a culture would be accepting of one type of homosexual man and not another- in a sense, it's not that they are prejudice against homosexuals, its more that they are less accepting of people who adopt gender roles that they view as unnatural.
