This is Andrej Pejic. A couple of years ago, he captured the attention of various big names in the fashion industry, and his star quickly rose. Thanks to his androgynous beauty, today he is a highly sought-after model.
The idea and image of a man whose appearance is not particularly masculine wearing what would traditionally qualify as women's clothing is pretty subversive in our society. The gender-play involved cannot be neatly categorized, which makes people used to rigid gender conventions uncomfortable. I suppose this discomfort may play a role in the popularity of androgyny in the fashion world--though I know almost nothing about the fashion industry, so to be honest I really cannot speak to that.
What do you guys think? How do you feel about Andrej?

Thanks for raising the issue of androgyny and how this blurring of rigidly established (gender/sex) boundaries makes us uncomfortable. What is ultimately threatening about ambiguity? What seems to be so unsettling about not-being-sure? There seems to be a whole discourse of "purity", quite alarming and quite close to fascist ideologies, behind the nurturing of strict definitions, the panicky avoidance of uncertainty and identity.
