Against Mongamy - Bersani

Although Bersani basically says that monogamy stifles and control people, trying to contain their natural curiousity, I believe that it is just a way of maturing people. Although the idea of being in an open relationship and having sex with multiple people is glorified (usually by males), this fantasy often gets old as people mature and realize what they really want in life. This idea is demonstrated over and over again in movies and tv shows. For example, in the show "Friends", Joey was always the character that the other guys on the show were constantly jealous of because of his ability to sleep with so many different women that he would forget their names. This lifestyle was one that Joey was fond of and envied for by other guys. However, Joey eventually got sick of this and wanted just one girl to settle down with (Rachel) and in the end he was the one that was jealous of the other guys for being able to stick to just one girl and be happy in a long-term relationship. Scenarios similar to this are often portrayed in many movies and shows, demonstrating that although people may think it's cool to sleep around with many lovers, this is actually just a sign of immaturity, and that when maturity does kick in, people usually want just one person to be in a relationship with. I feel that this is the same thing that happens in college, especially with guys. Although some guys initially want nothing more than to be involved with multiple girls, eventually they mature and start looking for just one girlfriend. Although the same does happen with girls, I don't think it is as common.
